Regarding its etymology, the Bhote people from Karandara used to come here with their yaks and sheep from the south, the Hindus came here and sacrificed he-goats to worship. Moreover, the Bhotes then started to call this lake ‘Ra’-‘Rat because ‘Ra’ means ‘he-goat’ and ‘Ra’ means ‘to roast’. The length of Rara is five km and the breadth is 2 km.
