Lovely Langtang Valley lies near the Tibetan fringe, north of Kathmandu. The lavish rhododendron and oak woods of its lower achieves shape part of an incomprehensible National Park, giving haven to an assortment of creatures, feathered creatures and wild blossoms. By difference, the upper valley is ruled by sparkling ice sheets, that tumble off the ice-clad summits of 7000m pinnacles. Occupying the valley are groups whose Tibetan beginnings are reflected in a particular style of building and lifestyle. The nearby Tamang "Sherpas" are descendents of the rangers of Ghengis Khan, complete with solid mountain stallions. Following a week trekking in the valley, with two days put aside to explore its upper achieves, we set out toward Gosainkund, a critical journey site, whose shining lakes are hallowed to both Hindus and Buddhists. To achieve the lakes we should climb, however with the prize of apparently one of the finest Himalayan scenes, from the Ganesh Himal west to the Annapurnas.
